COLUMBUS, OH — The following statement can be attributed to Dr. Lauren Beene, executive director of Ohio Physicians for Reproductive Rights:
“It is shameful to see opponents of our voter-sponsored initiative urge their political allies in the legislature to set a costly taxpayer-financed election in August for the sole purpose of preventing Ohioans from voting to restore and protect reproductive freedom in our state. Their attempt to destroy a simple majority rule standard that has stood in Ohio for more than a century is undemocratic and fundamentally wrong.
“Our supporters will not allow political maneuvers like this to impede our campaign to stop lobbyists and extreme politicians from interfering with the doctor-patient relationship. This is just another tactic in the multi-million dollar disinformation campaign against our amendment that includes a frivolous lawsuit, blatantly false ads, and undermining our democracy.
“We are gathering voter signatures now across Ohio to place The Right to Reproductive Freedom with Protections for Health and Safety initiative on the November statewide general election ballot. We have the overwhelming support of Ohioans and we will not be deterred.”
